yer dis is a real awesome picture.... i'm no expert on the subject but i was told californians are almost extinct and your onnly likely to see one in captivity...so i guess your pretty lucky....i would love to see in person
There's about 250 California Condors in the world, of those there's apx. 60 free-flying in California, in two separate populations, 60 in Arizona, and 12 in Baja, Mexico. The remainder are spread in captive breeding facilities in Los Angeles, San Diego, Boise, and Portland.
I work for the Condor Reintroduction Project here in Az., so its a little more than luck that I get to see them. ;)
If you're ever at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, there's usually some flying around between El Tovar and Lookout Studio.
Great shot...it's a magnificent bird. I was lucky enough to see an Andean Condor in captivity and they really are impressive birds, it must be great to see it in the wild!
